Becari Conzatti Laguage School: Besides the Spanish lessons in person or online, enjoy our workshops they are awesome.

We have had some busy months with lots of activities in our school:

The traditional Medicine workshop:

Lennis, our traditional healer has given several classes this month to our students. She showed our students the different herbs that are used in traditional medicine in Oaxaca, their names and how we use them. She also explains our students how to do “Cleansings” and how to take the bad energy from our bodies.

Weaving workshop:

We also were very happy to see our weaving teacher, Adriana. The class is amazing, and the students really enjoy it. She uses waist loom and traditional designs.

...And besides the month of July is one of the most beautiful months in Oaxaca since we celebrate our Guelaguetza Festival.

The term Guelaguetza is derived from the Zapotec word guendalezaa which means "Offering, present or fulfillment". It is one of the most popular traditions in the state of Oaxaca. The Guelaguetza has its origin from pre-Hispanic times, it is worth mentioning that this festivity began with a ritual that was done to the ancient gods in the place called by the Zapotecs as Daninayaaloani or hill of beautiful view. At that time, the ancient Mexica worshipped several deities, among them the Goddess Centéotl, who represented the Goddess of Corn and whom they worshipped and respected in such a way that they held a celebration to celebrate her year after year, offering her dances, rites and an enormous banquet that lasted eight days. Since then, this celebration was considered something very special and significant for the locals.

Currently, the "Lunes del Cerro" festival or “Guelaguetza” is still held in July of each year, with the presentation of the traditional dances of our communities, shows and cultural and sporting events.
